During the first week of June 2023, a team of youth from Divine Shepard Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska, and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Springfield, Missouri descended on South Florida to show the love of Christ.
The trip was led by Spencer Owen, director of Christian Education at Divine Shepard, and Hannah Hayden, Director of Youth Ministries as well as Rev. Stephen Moser from Redeemer Lutheran.
Working through local Lutheran Churches in South Florida, these enthusiastic high schoolers painted a small house, and the interior of an apartment for church members who could not afford to have it commercially done.
Spreading the “Good News” through Vacation Bible Schools at several churches was also on the agenda.
Distributing flyers about worship services and praying at each house took a whole afternoon.
The size of the team, of 20, required housing larger than the capacity of The Ministry In Mission House, which houses 14. Arrangements were made with St. Thomas University to use their dormitories to house the larger group. It was an opportunity to see a university campus for those looking forward to college.
Meals were served at St. Thomas and also at the Ministry In Mission House.
